Construction relates to the way in which something is built or put together. The old Globe Theatre Construction required design, planning and various building skills. The construction of the original Globe Theatre required the following planning stages:

  • Design and architecture - The Globe Theatre construction was based on the design and architecture of the Theatre
  • Finance - Six men financed the Globe Theatre construction - Cuthbert Burbage, Richard Burbage, William Shakespeare, John Heminges, Augustine Phillips and Thomas Pope
  • Legal - A thirty one year lease was obtained for the land on which the Globe was to be constructed
  • Materials - The materials used in the construction were timber, nails, stone (flint), plaster and thatch
    • Materials were 'obtained' from the old Theatre building
  • The following skills were required during the construction of the Globe Theatre
    • Labourers - general work & digging and laying the foundations
    • Carpenters
    • Joiners
    • Painters
    • Plasterers
    • Thatchers

The Globe Theatre was built by a master carpenter called Peter Smith and his workers. The acting troupe, including William Shakespeare, would have probably helped as it was in their interests to get the new Globe Theatre built as quickly as possible.
